Saying "I Do" to Industrial Chic: Why The Exchange is Downtown Chicago's Hottest Wedding Venue

Looking for a wedding venue in Chicago that skips the typical ballroom? The Exchange, nestled in the heart of the Loop, is rapidly becoming the city's premier choice for couples who want a seamless blend of historic grandeur and modern, industrial-chic sophistication.

A Blend of History and Style

The Exchange, once a bustling financial hub, has been beautifully transformed. Its architecture tells a story, featuring soaring ceilings, original exposed brick, and elegant industrial accents. This unique backdrop provides endless creative potential for décor and photography, moving far beyond the expected.

The space is incredibly versatile. Whether you envision a grand, large-scale affair or a more intimate celebration, the flexible layout can be perfectly configured. We were set up in the Atrium, which is more than capable of seating even weddings with a large number of guests. The Atrium also allows photographers and videographers a wonderful opportunity to get shots from above, and the grand staircase creates a lot of wonderful photo opportunities as well. The layout allows a smooth flow between the cocktail hour, dinner service, and dancing, ensuring a smooth, engaging experience for all your guests. Guests are able to be received in the cocktail area while the primary dining area is finishing setting up, and then the double doors open up to do the grand reveal of the beautiful decor. The bar area is incredibly nice, as well, and maybe a little too nice since it tends to be a hotspot for conversation and gathering. While we set up in the main foyer, I think that the bar area might actually work better for the sound issues we experienced and make it easier to get people dancing since they're gathering there anyway.

If you're seeking a downtown Chicago reception venue that offers an elegant, unique, and expertly managed experience, put The Exchange at the very top of your list. Pros and Cons from a Musician's Perspective Pros: The load-in is super easy. The loading entrance is located in an alley, and we were able to leave our van there, which is a Dodge Ram Promaster 2500, tucked up along the side of the alley with no issues. Extremely convenient when you don't have to move your vehicle to find parking while you're still in the process of loading in.

The venue is fantastically gorgeous, which is awesome for making our photos look great since there's already a fantastic backdrop. Cons: This was a bit of a new one for us, but the venue isn't exactly "music" friendly. The high ceilings, hard floor, and stone pillars make for a very echoey sound. This means taking out a lot of the low end, which has a tendency to linger and bounce a lot more, and tweaking the sound as best as you can to make it loud enough but not having everything blur together. As you see from the photos above, we didn't use subs like we typically would because it would have sounded rather mushy. From where we set up, we did have to run an extension cable quite a ways to get power. While we always have a 50' extension chord, this just increases the chances of something going wrong. These are very minor issues, though, from a musician's standpoint and definitely should not keep you from considering The Exchange for your next event.
